Invisible Quarkonium Decays as a Sensitive Probe of Dark Matter

We examine in a model-independent manner the measurements that can be performed at B-factories with sensitivity to dark matter. If a singlet scalar, pseudo-scalar, or vector is present and mediates the Standard Model - dark matter interaction, it can mediate invisible decays of quarkonium states such as the Υ\Upsilon, J/ΨJ/\Psi, and η\eta. Such scenarios have arisen in the context of supersymmetry, extended Higgs sectors, solutions the supersymmetric μ\mu problem, and extra U(1) gauge groups from grand unified theories and string theory. Existing B-factories running at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) can produce lower Υ\Upsilon resonances by emitting an Initial State Radiation (ISR) photon. Using a combination of ISR and radiative decays, the initial state of an invisibly decaying quarkonium resonance can be tagged, giving sensitivity to the spin and CP-nature of the particle that mediates standard model-dark matter interactions. These measurements can discover or place strong constraints on dark matter scenarios where the dark matter is approximately lighter than the bb-quark. For the decay chains Υ(nS)π+πΥ(1S)\Upsilon(nS) \to \pi^+ \pi^- \Upsilon(1S) (n=2,3) we analyze the dominant backgrounds and determine that with 400fb1400 fb^{-1} collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S), the B-factories can limit BR(\Upsilon(1S) \to invisible) \lsim 0.1%.Comment: 20 pages, 1 figure, accepted for publication in PR

Hadron Production via e+e- Collisions with Initial State Radiation

A novel method of studying e+e- annihilation into hadrons using initial state radiation at e+e- colliders is described. After brief history of the method, its theoretical foundations are considered. Numerous experiments in which exclusive cross sections of e+e- annihilation into hadrons below the center-of-mass energy of 5 GeV have been measured are presented. Some applications of the results obtained to fundamental tests of the Standard Model are listed.Comment: 50 pages, 88 figures, accepted for publication in Rev. Mod. Phy

New results on the hadronic vacuum polarization to the muon g-2

Results on the lowest-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon magnetic anomaly are presented. They are based on the latest published experimental data used as input to the dispersion integral. Thus recent results on tau to nutau pi pi0 decays from Belle and on e+ e- annihilation to pi+ pi- from BABAR and KLOE are included. The new data, together with improved isospin-breaking corrections for tau decays, result into a much better consistency among the different results. A discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the direct g-2 measurement is found at the level of 3 sigma.Comment: proceedings of the PhiPsi09 conference, Oct. 13-16, 2009, Beijing, Chin

The interference in the reaction e+eγπ+πe^+e^-\to\gamma\pi^+\pi^- and the search for the decay ϕγf0γπ+π\phi\to\gamma f_0\to\gamma\pi^+\pi^-

We describe the interference between amplitudes e+eργπ+πe^+e^- \to \rho \to \gamma\pi^+\pi^- and e+eϕγf0γπ+πe^+e^- \to \phi \to \gamma f_0 \to \gamma\pi^+\pi^-, where f0f_0 meson is considered in the frameworks of the four-quark model and the model of the scalar KKˉK\bar K molecule. The general expressions for the differential cross section with the radiative corrections and two angle cuts are given. The interference patterns are obtained in the spectrum of the differential cross section by the energy of the photon and in the full cross section by the energy of the beams.Comment: 21 pages, revtex, 8 ps files of figure

Measurement of the e+eK+Kπ+πe^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- cross section with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 collider

The process e+eK+Kπ+πe^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- has been studied in the center-of-mass energy range from 1500 to 2000\,MeV using a data sample of 23 pb1^{-1} collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+ee^+e^- collider. Using about 24000 selected events, the e+eK+Kπ+πe^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- cross section has been measured with a systematic uncertainty decreasing from 11.7\% at 1500-1600\,MeV to 6.1\% above 1800\,MeV. A preliminary study of K+Kπ+πK^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- production dynamics has been performed
